Mold Creation

What Are the Advantages of Rotomolded Fuel Tanks Compared to Traditional Iron Fuel Tanks?


When the engine power is fixed, the lighter the vehicle weight, the greater the payload capacity. Therefore, designers strive to reduce the weight of the car as much as possible to enhance fuel economy. The relative density of rotational molding is only about 17% compared to metal. When compared to metal tanks of the same volume, the weight of plastic can be reduced by about one-third to half.


Appears to be quite flexible. Modern cars are becoming increasingly compact, and equipped with more features. Therefore, making full use of the available space in the car is an effective way to improve vehicle utilization. Due to the different manufacturing process from that of metal fuel tanks, rotomolded fuel tanks can be made into complex, irregular shapes in one go, thereby adjusting the tank shape to fit the spatial position when determining the overall layout of the vehicle, and making full use of the remaining chassis space to expand the tank volume, increase fuel storage, and extend the vehicle's driving range.


Will not explode. Metal tanks are prone to explode in fires. As rotomolded fuel tanks are made of high molecular weight polyethylene, their thermal conductivity is very low, only 1% that of metal. Simultaneously, high molecular weight polyethylene has elasticity and rigidity. It still has excellent impact resistance and mechanical properties in environments ranging from -40℃ to -60℃, making it difficult to generate sparks during impacts and friction. Even if the car catches fire accidentally, there won't be an explosion due to the thermal expansion of the rotomolded fuel tank, giving passengers enough time to evacuate.
